Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
