Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
