Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
