Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
