Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
