Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
