Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
