Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
