Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
