Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
