Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
