Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
