Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
