Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
