Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
