Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
