Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
