Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
