Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
