Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
