Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
