Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
