Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
