Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
